Alfonso Nieto uses large,
simple, strong graphic shapes of textured color in his photographs
to give each plane of his images clear articulation. The
viewer becomes acutely aware of the subject of the work
as it visually “pops” out of its otherwise abstract
background. It is as though the objects of his works have
been added to their surfaces through another dimension,
and consequently take on an almost surreal prominence. To
exaggerate this sense even further, his subjects appear
isolated, completely oblivious to their surroundings.
Nieto earned his B.A. in Fine Arts from
Universidad de Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Gto. He has exhibited
worldwide in places as diverse as New York City, Houston,
TX, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Guanajuato, Mexico, Nuremberg,
Germany and Greensburg, PA. He earned a Painting Residency
at the Vermont Studio in Johnson, VT, has taught several
classes on the university level and was an active participant
in the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato,
Gto. Mexico.
