Robin Woodsome spent most
of his childhood in East Africa, an experience which clearly
influences his present work. His paintings, however, are
not about geography, or even about the figures that dominate
his canvases. They're about connectedness. His human figures
are stripped down to their essential selves, and then entwined
to form paths reflecting the interlocked structure of humanity.
These images come across powerfully and effectively, demanding
involvement from the viewer.
Woodsome is the recipient of a National
Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowship grant. Selected
exhibitions include "Small Works," Suburban Fine
Arts Center, Highland Park, IL, "Area Invitational
Art Exhibition," Aurora University, and "Why is
this Night Different...?" at DePaul University, among
others.
